The questioner : The questioner from Dammam says, "May the Shaykh be respected, as is known to us in some mosques, after the obligatory prayer, the imam reads from *Riyad al-Salihin* or *al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib* or a book that is present. But we know that after the taslim, it is prescribed to recite the tasbih and tahlil prescribed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So one of the brothers said to me, 'Is it not better to leave the space for people to recite tasbih and tahlil instead of reading to them? What is the opinion of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen on that?' Since some people, as soon as the imam finishes the hadith after 'Asr, they leave. I ask for your guidance, may you be rewarded."

The Shaykh : It is without doubt that after the prayer is finished, it is prescribed for a person to seek forgiveness three times and say, "O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor." Then he remembers Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) with what the Sunnah has brought. This is the principle.

The questioner : Yes, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : But those who speak after the prayer with what they speak of, whether from hadiths written in previous books, or from a paper containing beneficial hadiths, or impromptu, they only hasten to speak because they fear that the people will leave if they wait for the people to recite tasbih. And it is prescribed for some people that seeking knowledge is better than the dhikr that is recited after the prayer, because seeking knowledge is not matched by anything, as Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Knowledge is not matched by anything". So they say, "We are speaking about beneficial knowledge, and whoever wants to recite tasbih, let him recite tasbih, even if we are reading or speaking. And whoever wants to listen to us and then recite tasbih afterwards, that is for him."
And whoever is not able to combine both, then he listens to the beneficial hadith and knowledge, then goes out to his work, there is no blame on him.
Yes, if the people were accustomed to the fact that the sermon or hadith comes after they finish their tasbih, such that the people know that a word or sermon or hadith will be delivered after the tasbih, then it is better here to let the people recite tasbih and then speak. But the people are not accustomed to this, and most of them do not have patience. Therefore, the imams who speak and narrate hadiths to the people saw that the hadith or speech should be after seeking forgiveness three times and after saying "O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor".
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he wanted to speak to his Companions after the prayer, when he said the taslim, he would turn to them and then speak to them. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you, O honorable Shaykh.
