Some of the Muslims in the 'Isha' prayer, after finishing the obligatory prayer, one of them stands up and says

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The listener from Sudan also says: Some of the Muslims in the 'Isha' prayer, after finishing the obligatory prayer, one of them stands up and says "O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace; Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor". Then everyone stands up before the dhikr and they perform the sunnah and witr. After that, one of them starts the dhikr and they repeat after him. Is this practice valid, or is it a bid'ah (religious innovation)?

The Shaykh : Yes. This is an innovated practice that is reprehensible. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions did not do it. What is prescribed is that each person recites the dhikr himself. After the taslim, he says
I seek forgiveness from Allah. استغفر الله
three times
"O Allah, You are As-Salam, and from you is As-Salam. You are blessed, O One of Magnificence and Generosity." اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام تباركت يا ذا الجلال والإكرام
Sunan Abi Dawud 1512Sahih (Al-Albani)
and he mentions Allah the Exalted three times, saying
There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belong the Kingdom and praise, and He has power over everything لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير
Muwatta Malik 20:131
except in the Maghrib and Fajr prayers, where he mentions Allah ten times
None has the right to be worshipped by Allah, Alone, without partner, to Him belongs all that exists, and to Him belongs the praise, [He gives life and causes death,] and He has power over all things لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد يحيي ويميت وهو على كل شيء قدير
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3553Sahih (Darussalam)
. He also recites the dhikr reported in this matter, which has four forms. The first form is to say "Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar" thirty-three times, which makes ninety-nine, and he completes the hundred by saying
There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belong the Kingdom and praise, and He has power over everything لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير
Muwatta Malik 20:131
.
The second form is to say "Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah" until he completes thirty-three, then he says "Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah" until he completes thirty-three, then he says "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar" thirty-four times, so the total is one hundred.
The third form is to say "Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah" ten times, "Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah" ten times, and "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar" ten times, so the total is thirty.
The fourth form is to say "Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar" twenty-five times, so the total is one hundred. Sometimes he says this, and sometimes he says that.
Then, after this, he prays the rawatib (regular voluntary prayers) if he wishes to pray them in the mosque, and if he wishes to pray them at home, that is better, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
The most excellent prayer of a person is (that which he prays) in his house except that which is prescribed (the five congregational prayers). أفضل صلاة المرء في بيته إلا المكتوبة
Bulugh al-Maram 2:313
. Even if he is in al-Masjid al-Haram or al-Masjid al-Nabawi, it is better to pray the rawatib at home, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray the rawatib at home and did not pray them in his mosque, even though prayer in his mosque is better than a thousand prayers in any other place except al-Masjid al-Haram. Rather, he said to his Companions
The most excellent prayer of a person is (that which he prays) in his house except that which is prescribed (the five congregational prayers). أفضل صلاة المرء في بيته إلا المكتوبة
Bulugh al-Maram 2:313
, speaking to them about this while al-Masjid al-Nabawi was present with them. This is evidence that voluntary prayer at home is better, even if you are in al-Masjid al-Haram or al-Masjid al-Nabawi, because of the many benefits in praying at home. Among the many virtues of praying at home is that a person follows what is better rather than what he desires. A person following what is better while his soul calls him to the opposite earns a greater reward. Many people desire and wish to pray in al-Masjid al-Haram, even the rawatib and voluntary prayers, or to pray in al-Masjid al-Nabawi, even the rawatib and voluntary prayers. Their souls urge them to do so strongly. If they leave this for what is better, they earn a reward for it.
Second, praying voluntary prayers at home is following the example of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Third, there is good for the house in praying voluntary prayers at home, because worship in a place has an effect on that place. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Do not make your houses graves لا تجعلوا بيوتكم قبورا
Sunan Abi Dawud 2042Sahih (Al-Albani)
, meaning do not leave it without prayer as graves are left without prayer.
Fourth, if the family and small children see you praying, they become accustomed to prayer, love it, understand it, and learn it. There are also other virtues that do not come to my mind now, but the important thing is that voluntary prayer at home is better than voluntary prayer in the mosque, except if evidence indicates that voluntary prayer in the mosque is better, then follow the evidence. For example, standing in night prayer in Ramadan; praying it in the mosques is better because this is the way of the righteous Salaf, and because this is what the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) brought. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed with his Companions in congregation in the mosque for three nights in Ramadan, then he left it for fear that it would become obligatory for the people.
The important thing is that prayer at home is better. Repeat the question?

The questioner : He says: Some of the Muslims in the 'Isha' prayer, after finishing the obligatory prayer, one of them stands up and says.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : By saying "O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace; Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor". Then everyone stands up before the dhikr and they perform the sunnah and witr. Then one of them stands up for the dhikr and they repeat after him. Is this correct?

The Shaykh : Yes. I clarified at the beginning of the answer that it is a bid'ah (religious innovation).

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : A reprehensible one, and that the Sunnah is for each person to recite the dhikr himself, without them doing it in a collective voice. And I said that it is better for the rawatib to be at home, because the best prayer of a person is at home, except for the obligatory prayer.
Also, their praying the rawatib before they recite the dhikr is also not correct.

The questioner : Good, good.

The Shaykh : Because the dhikr is a follow-up to the obligatory prayer, so it should not be separated from the obligatory prayer by a voluntary prayer. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
