I have relatives who commit many sins, and I have advised them, but they did not respond to me. Do I have the right to cut off ties with them, or is it obligatory for me to maintain ties with them?

The questioner : A questioner says: I have relatives who commit many sins, and I have advised them, but they did not respond to me. Do I have the right to cut off ties with them, or is it obligatory for me to maintain ties with them?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for you to maintain ties with them, to advise them and repeat your advice to them, to explain to them the virtue of obeying Allah and His Messenger, and to warn them against disobeying Allah and His Messenger. Do not despair; perhaps they will not respond the first time, but they will respond in subsequent times.
