Discussion of the Duha Prayer: Its Ruling, Number of Rak'ahs, Its Virtue, and Its Time

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The Duha prayer is two, four, six, eight, ten, or twelve rak'ahs, or whatever you wish. But its minimum is two rak'ahs. Its time is from when the sun rises the height of a spear until just before the midday time; all of this is the time for the Duha prayer. Among its benefits is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned in his saying:
Sadaqa is due on every joint of a person, every day the sun rises. على كل سلامى من الناس صدقة كل يوم تطلع فيه الشمس
Sahih Muslim 1009
. The joints are the bones and the joints. Every joint has a charity upon you, every day the sun rises. He said:
And the joints are three hundred and sixty والسلامى ثلاثمائة وستون
. So how much charity is upon you? Three hundred and sixty every day. You must give three hundred and sixty charities every day. - Pay attention, my brother - The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
and two rak'ahs which one prays in the forenoon will suffice. ويجزئ عن ذلك ركعتان يركعهما من الضحى
Sahih Muslim 720
This is a great benefit. Instead of me looking to see if I have provided three hundred and sixty charities, I pray two rak'ahs, and that suffices for three hundred and sixty charities. O Allah, to You is praise. But is this charity? Is it charity of wealth or what? No, every deed that brings one closer to Allah is a charity. Every takbir is a charity, every tahlil is a charity, every tahmid is a charity, enjoining good is a charity, forbidding evil is a charity, removing a harmful object from the road is a charity, helping a man is a charity, and everything that brings one closer to Allah, whether in speech or action, is a charity.
And I hope that we will not be unable to perform such charities.
