Is one who goes to jihad in Chechnya considered a mujahid in the path of Allah?

The questioner : O Shaykh, may Allah forgive you: Is one who goes to Chechnya and Yugoslavia for jihad considered among the mujahideen in the path of Allah?

The Shaykh : By Allah, I heard the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): As for Chechnya, did they ask us to come to them? Because, my brothers, if they did not ask us for this, the people would become a burden on them, because everyone needs maintenance, needs weapons, and needs a place, so we would be a burden on them.
Then, secondly, perhaps this mujahid who went from a country other than Chechnya might be discovered by the Russian soldiers, and they would say, "So this state or republic harbors people of terrorism," and there would be harm in that. Rather, the right of our Chechen brothers upon us now is that we call upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic) at all times, because the fall of an Islamic republic at the hands of atheist disbelievers who were expelled from it yesterday and come today as victors is not a trivial matter. Also, its victory would be the seed for the victory of the other republics that the Russians have colonized. We ask Allah to cast terror into their hearts, to cause them to fail, and to return them from where they came.
It also prevents the spread of Islam in those republics, so the matter is very serious. I wish the Muslims knew the magnitude of this calamity and rose up individually and in pairs to rebuke the Russians and rebuke the Western countries, because the Western countries are Christian disbelievers, and the Russians? They are atheist disbelievers. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says: Do not say that these are People of the Book by their claim, and that these are atheists; they are all the same, all at war with Islam. The evidence for this is Timur the Lame, a part of Indonesia, but most of it is Christian. When what happened in the elections occurred, the entire Western nation rose up with its air, naval, and land fleet to achieve the victory of this part of Muslim Indonesia. See how it is? Chechnya is now an independent state that the Russians are striking now, yes, leading the girls to immorality and the boys to slaughter, and they have not said a word. But we do not explain about those disbelievers; they are disbelievers, disbelievers. Those we explain about are the Islamic states; where are they in preventing this? Therefore, it is obligatory upon the Islamic states—I say this and hope my words reach their ears—it is obligatory upon them to set out lightly and heavily to support these people, even if only with words. As for remaining silent as if nothing had happened, it is, by Allah, disturbing. And our sadness is not that one state is defeated against another state; our sadness is that this is a defeat for Islam, because the Russians did not dominate in this way except out of fear of Islam. And the Western countries, may Allah fight them, humiliate them, and disgrace them, did not remain silent about the Russians doing what they do except that in it is the destruction of Islam, even though we know, for I hear that the Jews are helping the Russians in the fighting, and this is not far-fetched, for the Jews are enemies and it is clear.
I say: It is upon us now to call upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in prostration, between the adhan and the iqamah, at the end of the night, and on Friday when the imam comes until the prayer is finished, that Allah will support our Chechen brothers and humiliate these disbelievers. And Allah is the Helper.
