What is the ruling on the statement of one who says, "This is an inauspicious day" or "a happy day"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah guide you, O Shaykh. What is the ruling on the statement of one who says, "This is an inauspicious day" or "an unfortunate day"?

The Shaykh : Are you reading the Qur'an?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : What did Lut say when the angels descended upon him? He said:
He said, "This is a severe day." قَالَ هَذَا يَوْمٌ عَصِيبٌ
meaning: severe. So if the intention of the one who says, "This is an inauspicious day," is to curse the day, this is forbidden. And if his intention is merely to report the fact, then there is nothing wrong with it, do you understand? As for "a happy day," that is good, in the sense of optimism, and optimism is all good.
The one after him.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes.
