Affirming the voluntary actions of Allah (Mighty and Majestic)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And among the benefits of this noble verse is affirming the voluntary actions of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). This is repeated to you often, so what is the meaning of voluntary actions? It means that some of the people of innovation say that Allah is not attributed with voluntary actions; He does not come, does not rise above, does not descend, does not speak, does not laugh, does not rejoice, and does not be pleased, because these are voluntary matters that occur by will. If it were true that Allah is described with them, He would be a created thing, because these are created things, and created things do not exist except in a created being. This is a defective analogy in opposition to the explicit text. Glory be to Allah the Great! How great it is to describe Allah (Mighty and Majestic) as one who does not act! This is the greatest defect: that the Lord (Mighty and Majestic) does not act. For this reason, some of the Salaf interpreted "the Ever-Living" in the saying of Allah the Exalted: as "the Doer," because the perfection of life is to do what He wills, and if He does not do what He wills, He is certainly deficient. These people, may Allah protect us from them, have stripped Allah (Mighty and Majestic) of His perfection with their weak, feeble, and defective minds. Add to this that by denying Allah speech and action, since He does not speak voluntary speech, they have denied Allah speech and action.
