What are the conditions for a supplication to be answered? Tell us about its etiquettes, and what is your opinion of one whose chest expands and who smiles during supplication, out of faith in Allah and certainty of the response, and in remembrance of the greatness of the connection with the Lord of the worlds?

The questioner : Noble Shaykh, what are the conditions for a supplication to be answered? Tell us about its etiquettes, and what is the opinion of the Noble Shaykh of one whose chest expands and who smiles during supplication, out of faith in Allah and certainty of the response, and in remembrance of the greatness of the connection with the Lord of the worlds?

The Shaykh : Among the most important conditions for supplication is sincerity to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), such that the person, in his supplication to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), feels his poverty before his Lord and the self-sufficiency of his Lord regarding him. He should also feel the nearness of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) during supplication and the response of Allah the Exalted to the supplication. Allah the Exalted said:
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ
[Al-Baqarah 2:186]
.
Among the etiquettes of supplication is raising one's hands during supplication, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Your Rabb (Lord of the Universe) is Modest and Generous, and would never turn the hands of a slave without gain when he raises them to Him (in supplication). إن الله حيي كريم يستحيي من عبده إذا رفع إليه يديه أن يردّهما صفراً
Bulugh al-Maram 16:117
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the man who travels a long distance, disheveled and dusty, stretching his hands to the sky, saying: O Lord, O Lord.
Among the etiquettes of supplication is that a person should persist in supplication and repeat it, even if the response is delayed the first or second time. Let him repeat it, for Allah the Exalted may withhold the response from the servant. He may withhold the response from the servant the first time in order for him to increase in supplication to his Lord and in his need for Him. It is also a test for the servant: will he persist in his supplication to Allah, or will he give up and be prevented? So persist, O Muslim brother, with your Lord in supplication, for Allah loves those who persist in supplication.
It is not permissible for a person to supplicate for sin or for severing family ties, because this is transgression in supplication, and transgression in supplication is forbidden. If he supplicates against a person with something that person does not deserve, he has transgressed in his supplication, and it is not permissible for him.
Supplication has many well-known etiquettes, and one should refer to the books written on this topic for details. Yes.
