The questioner : The questioner says: O honorable Shaykh, what is the ruling on lying in a dream for the sake of public interest, especially to a husband who does not pray, such as threatening him with the Fire so that he returns from his neglect of prayer? May you be rewarded.

The Shaykh : Lying in a dream is forbidden, indeed it is among the major sins. Because if a person lies in a dream, meaning he says, "I saw such-and-such in a dream," when he did not see it, he will be punished on the Day of Resurrection. He will be made to tie a knot between two grains of barley, and he will not be able to tie it. It is not said that if there is a benefit, lying is permissible, because one can never be called to Allah through disobedience to Allah. Rather, what is in the Qur'an and the Sunnah of admonitions is sufficient for us. If this man who is negligent in prayer, or in other obligatory duties, is admonished with what is in the Qur'an and the Sunnah, that is sufficient. If he takes heed, that is what is required. If he does not take heed, the proof has been established against him, and his reckoning is with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). For this reason, Allah the Exalted said to His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
(21) So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. (22) You are not over them a controller. (23) However, he who turns away and disbelieves - (24) Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. (25) Indeed, to Us is their return. (26) Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
[Al-Ghashiyah 88:21-26]
So the reckoning of the creation is with Allah. Whoever has knowledge is not burdened with anything other than conveying his knowledge to those who do not know it, and it is not upon him to guide the people.
Not upon you, [O Muhammad], is [responsibility for] their guidance, but Allah guides whom He wills. لَيسَ عَلَيكَ هُداهُم وَلكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهدي مَن يَشاءُ
[Al-Baqarah 2:272]
Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
