The questioner : I am a young man suffering from bad character, whether in my dealings or in my speech, despite my continuous attempts to correct it, even though, praise be to Allah, I am committed to performing the obligatory acts at their times, performing the voluntary acts, and reciting the Book of Allah. Is there a cure for this matter?
The Shaykh : It appears that the cure for this matter is easy, as long as this questioner is as he described. He should, when he becomes angry, hold back his anger and suppress it, because a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Advise me." He said: He repeated this several times, and he said: .
Let him treat himself by calming his nerves, and when he becomes angry, let him seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. Then, if he is standing, let him sit, and if he is sitting, let him lie down. It is not necessary for things to come all at once and for the situation to become correct; perhaps that will happen after a long treatment, but he should not leave himself without treatment.
Then, it is also obligatory for him to turn to Allah the Exalted with supplication, asking Him to protect him from this despicable character. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, when He knows from His servant the sincerity of his turning to Him and his dependence on Him, He will help him and reward him.
