What is the difference between tamattu', ifrad, and qiran?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the difference between tamattu', ifrad, and qiran?

The Shaykh : The difference between them is as follows:
First: Tamattu' is to enter the state of ihram for 'Umrah during the months of Hajj and complete it, then perform tawaf, sa'y, and shorten the hair, and exit the state of ihram completely. Then, one enters the state of ihram for Hajj in the same year, so that the 'Umrah is separate from the Hajj.
As for qiran: It is to enter the state of ihram for both 'Umrah and Hajj together, saying at the beginning of one's ihram: "Labbaik 'Umrah and Hajj." In this case, the actions are for the Hajj, and the 'Umrah is included in the actions of the Hajj.
As for ifrad: It is to enter the state of ihram for Hajj alone, without performing 'Umrah with it, saying: "Labbaik Allahumma Hajjan" when entering the state of ihram from the miqat.
This is the difference in terms of actions. As for the obligation of the sacrificial animal, the animal is obligatory for the one performing tamattu' and the one performing qiran, but not for the one performing ifrad. This animal is not a blood of compensation, but a blood of gratitude. For this reason, a person eats from it, gives it as a gift, and donates it as charity.
As for which is better, tamattu' is the best, except for the one who brings the sacrificial animal, for whom qiran is the best. Then tamattu' comes next, followed by qiran, and then ifrad.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
