A woman who is negligent in prayer: what is her husband’s obligation toward her?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A woman who is negligent in prayer: what is her husband’s obligation toward her?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for her husband to command her to pray and to discipline her for leaving the prayer until she prays. If she persists in not praying, in leaving the prayer, then she becomes a disbeliever, may Allah protect us from that, and exits Islam. She is not lawful for him; he must separate from her, because a disbelieving woman is not lawful for a Muslim except a People of the Book woman.
And I advise this woman with an advice I hope Allah the Exalted will make beneficial. I say to her: Repent to Allah and hold fast to the rope of Allah, and perform what Allah has made obligatory upon you of prayer, and do not be negligent with it. For leaving the prayer, according to the stronger position, is major shirk that expels one from the religion. We ask Allah for safety and well-being. And if she remains persistent in leaving the prayer, the marriage contract is annulled and the custody of your children is lost, and the outcome will be dire, may Allah protect us from that. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah preserve you. This questioner says.
