Explanation of the Book of Friday Prayer and the Two Festivals-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muslim narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from al-Hakam, from Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have been helped by the east wind and the 'Ad were destroyed by the west wind.
Sahih Muslim 900a
.

The Shaykh : I was supported by the Sabah wind, and that was during the Battle of the Trench. The confederates gathered against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and came to besiege the city with approximately 10,000 fighters from all the Arab tribes and their clans. They remained besieging the city, so Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) sent upon them the eastern wind. The eastern wind is cold and has less force than the western wind and is colder than the western wind, but Allah the Exalted intensified it against Quraysh until they lit fires to warm themselves, and it overturned the cooking pots and tore down the tents. They found no rest until Abu Sufyan called for them to retreat, which they were unable to do. This is a victory from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allah upon you when armies came to [attack] you and We sent upon them a wind and armies [of angels] you did not see. And ever is Allah, of what you do, Seeing.
[Al-Ahzab 33:9]
. As for 'Ad, they were destroyed by the Dabur. The Dabur is the western wind, and it is called Dabur because it comes from the rear of the Ka'bah. The Ka'bah has a front, which is the direction of the door, and a rear, which is the opposite direction. This wind comes from that side. It also came to 'Ad while they were in their place in the sands of al-Ahqaf. It came to 'Ad from the direction from which the clouds come to them. When they saw it, they said, "This is a cloud that will bring us rain." Allah the Exalted said:
Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment, (25) Destroying everything by command of its Lord. And they became so that nothing was seen [of them] except their dwellings.
[Al-Ahqaf 46:24-25]
until those in the houses were killed by this wind. It would carry a man to a high place and then throw him back to the ground, so they became like the trunks of empty palm trees. We ask Allah for well-being.
And look at the wisdom of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) where He destroyed 'Ad with the wind, and the wind is light and gentle, because they said, "Who is stronger than us in power?" Allah the Exalted said:
(15) As for 'Aad, they were arrogant upon the earth without right and said, "Who is greater than us in strength?" Did they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs. (16) So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life; but the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.
[Fussilat 41:15-16]
.
And look at Pharaoh, who used to boast of the rivers flowing beneath him, saying to his people:
Is it not for me the kingdom of Egypt, and these rivers flowing beneath me? Do you not see? Or am I better than this one who is despised and can hardly express himself?
and he was destroyed by the very thing he boasted of, which is water, so that it becomes clear to the servants that the power of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is above all power, and that there is no opponent for Him and no equal for Him. Yes. Glory be to Allah, you hear it and I do not hear it.
