The Book of Friday Prayer, the Two Festivals, the Prayer for Rain, the Eclipse Prayer, and Funerals-05a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Abu al-Tahir narrated to me, Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: I heard Ibn Jurayj narrating to us from Ata ibn Abi Rabah from Aisha, the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that she said: When the wind blew fiercely, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good in it, and the good for which it was sent, and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil in it, and the evil for which it was sent." She said: And when the sky appeared to be changing, his color would change, and he would go out and come in, and move back and forth. When it rained, he would be relieved, and I would know that from his face. Aisha said: So I asked him, and he said: "Perhaps, O Aisha, it is like what the people of 'Ad said. When they saw it as a cloud heading toward their valleys, they said: 'This is a cloud that will bring us rain.'"

The Shaykh : This is also something that a person should follow when the wind blows. The wind referred to here is the one that deviates from the norm, which is why he said:
When the wind blew fiercely
.
He said:
O Allah, I ask You for the good in herاللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا
Sunan Abi Dawud 2160Hasan (Al-Albani)
This is its good, which relates to its essence, because the wind may become refreshing, and it may remove some harmful things, so he asks Allah for its good.
The good in itخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا
Because it may carry plagues that spread across the earth due to the wind,
and the good of what it has been sent withوَخَيْرَ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3449Sahih (Darussalam)
because it may be sent as punishment. These are the three aspects: its good means the good of this wind, such that it does not demolish houses or uproot trees; the good in it means what it carries; and the good for which it was sent means what it was sent with, because it may be sent with good and it may be sent with evil. And likewise he said:
And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent withوَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3449Sahih (Darussalam)

She said: And when the sky appeared to be changing: meaning there was an appearance in it, his color would change, and he would go out and come in, and move back and forth. When it rained, he would be relieved: meaning he knew that it was an appearance of good and blessing, not punishment. Aisha said: I knew that from his face. She said: So I asked him, and he said: "Perhaps, O Aisha, it is like what the people of 'Ad said:
And when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, "This is a cloud bringing us rain!"
[Al-Ahqaf 46:24]
The people of 'Ad, when they saw the wind approaching, black and great, said: "This is a cloud that will bring us rain." They considered it a rain cloud. Allah the Exalted said:
Rather, it is that for which you were impatient
[Al-Ahqaf 46:24]
Because they challenged the messengers, saying: "Bring us what you promise us"
Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment,
[Al-Ahqaf 46:24]
And in the other verse:
when We sent against them the barren wind.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:41]
So it is barren, with no good in it and no blessing, but rather it contains evil, it contains a painful, hurting punishment. And there is no clearer proof of its pain than that it takes the man up to the sky, then returns him to the earth, refuge in Allah, and they fall dead as if they were the tops of empty date palms.
This wind, Allah the Exalted said:
Destroying everything by command of its Lord. And they became so that nothing was seen [of them] except their dwellings
[Al-Ahqaf 46:25]
Everything: meaning everything from what they enjoyed, and not everything from what they owned, as evidenced by His saying:
Nothing was seen of them except their dwellings
But everything they enjoyed, and everything they boasted about, and about which they said, "Who is stronger than us in power," was destroyed. The wind destroyed it by the permission of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. And reflect on this mercy: they boasted of their strength and said, "Who is stronger than us in power," so they were destroyed by what? By a wind, which is one of the gentlest things. Just as Pharaoh used to boast and say: "These rivers flow beneath me." By what was he destroyed? By water. He, the Exalted, says:
And they became so that nothing was seen [of them] except their dwellings. Thus do We recompense the criminal people.
[Al-Ahqaf 46:25]
This is an analogy, meaning: We will reward the sinful people with such a reward, meaning it is not specific to them, but rather everyone who is a sinner will receive from the punishment of Allah what he deserves, if Allah the Exalted wills.
Allah the Exalted said:
Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allah destroyed [everything] over them, and for the disbelievers is something comparable.
[Muhammad 47:10]
Do not think that the punishment that befell the nations will be lifted. Yes, the general punishment was lifted, praise be to Allah, but it may be a specific punishment in a village, in a city, in a region, in a province.
