The reciter: Ahmad ibn Isa narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn al-Harith informed me from Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Nawfal al-Qurashi:
He asked Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, saying: “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj, and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) informed me that the first thing he began with when he arrived was that he performed wudu, then he circumambulated the House, and it was not an Umrah. Then Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Hajj, and the first thing he began with was circumambulating the House, and it was not an Umrah. Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did the same. Then Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Hajj, and I saw that the first thing he began with was circumambulating the House, and it was not an Umrah. Then Muawiyah and Abdullah ibn Umar. Then I performed Hajj with my father, al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam, and the first thing he began with was circumambulating the House, and it was not an Umrah. Then I saw the Muhajireen and the Ansar doing that, and it was not an Umrah. Then the last person I saw doing that was Ibn Umar, and he did not make it an Umrah. So this is Ibn Umar with them, and they do not ask him, nor anyone of those who passed before, for they did not begin with anything until they placed their feet in the circumambulation of the House, and then they did not break their state of consecration. And I saw my mother and my maternal aunt when they arrived; they did not begin with anything before the House, but they would circumambulate it, and then they would not break their state of consecration. And my mother informed me that she and her sister, and al-Zubayr, and so-and-so, and so-and-so, had declared their intention for Umrah, so when they touched the Corner, they broke their state of consecration.”

The Shaykh : The point of this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed wudu for the circumambulation, but does the mere act indicate that it is obligatory? It is known that it does not indicate obligation because he did not command it; he did not say to the one who wants to circumambulate, “Perform wudu,” but he did it. And he also did it for the sake of the two rak'ahs of the circumambulation, because the two rak'ahs of the circumambulation require wudu. Did he speak about this?
The reciter: The issue of purity?

The Shaykh : The heading.
