The Book of Hajj-08b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Reciter: Hārūn ibn Sa‘īd al-A‘lī narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, saying: ‘Amr, who is Ibn al-Ḥārith, informed me from Muḥammad ibn ‘Abd al-Raḥmān:
That a man from the people of Iraq said to him: “Ask ‘Urwah ibn al-Zubayr for me about a man who declares his intention for Hajj; when he circumambulates the Ka‘bah, does he break his state of consecration or not? If he tells you that he does not break it, then say to him: A man says that.” He said: “So I asked him, and he said: One who declares his intention for Hajj does not break his state of consecration except for Hajj.” I said: “But a man used to say that.” He said: “What a bad thing he said.” The man then turned to me and asked me, so I informed him. He said: “Then say to him: A man used to report that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did that, and what about Asmā’ and al-Zubayr, for they did that?” He said: “So I went to him and mentioned that to him. He said: ‘Who is this?’ I said: ‘I do not know.’ He said: ‘Why does he not come to me himself to ask me? I think he is from Iraq.’ I said: ‘I do not know.’ He said: ‘He has lied. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj, and ‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) informed me that the first thing he began with when he arrived in Makkah was that he performed ablution, then he circumambulated the Ka‘bah. Then Abū Bakr performed Hajj, and the first thing he began with was circumambulating the Ka‘bah, and there was nothing else. Then ‘Umar did the same. Then ‘Uthmān performed Hajj, and I saw that the first thing he began with was circumambulating the Ka‘bah, and there was nothing else. Then Mu‘āwiyah and ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Umar. Then I performed Hajj with Abū al-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwām, and the first thing he began with was circumambulating the Ka‘bah, and there was nothing else. Then I saw the Muhajireen and the Ansār doing that, and there was nothing else. Then the last person I saw doing that was Ibn ‘Umar.
