Regarding the hadiths about silk, gold, and silver being for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter: if we find a believing, righteous man whom we consider to be such, but he uses them, what is the ruling?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding the hadiths we mentioned about silk being for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter.

The Shaykh : Silk?

The questioner : Gold and silver are for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter. If we find a believing, righteous man whom we consider to be such, but he uses gold and silver, do we tell him that this is forbidden for him in the Hereafter?

The Shaykh : It is reported regarding silk and intoxicants that whoever wears silk in this world will not wear it in the Hereafter, and whoever drinks intoxicants in this world will not drink them in the Hereafter, even if he is a believer. However, the scholars differed on this: does the meaning imply that he is forbidden from entering Paradise, because if he enters Paradise he will wear silk and drink intoxicants? Or does the meaning imply that he is forbidden from [wearing or drinking them] even if he enters Paradise, for a duration that Allah the Exalted wills, and then he is permitted to do so? Yes.
