The Miqat of the People of Makkah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The listener, Salihah Muhammad Ali Abu Husayn, from the city of Makkah al-Mukarramah, Al-Zahir district, sent a message to the program saying: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings. I am one of the listeners who admire the *Nur 'ala al-Dirb* program for its valuable advice, and I would like to present my questions to the distinguished scholars on the *Nur 'ala al-Dirb* program, hoping for answers to them.
The first question says: From where does one enter the state of ihram if he is in Makkah? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: The one who is in Makkah enters the state of ihram from the Haram (the area outside the sacred precinct). This is the Sunnah, meaning: he enters ihram from at-Tan‘im or from al-Ja‘ranah or from elsewhere, such as ‘Arafah or Jeddah. The point is that he leaves the Haram and enters ihram from beyond the miles outside the Haram. The evidence for this is what is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he ordered ‘A’ishah, when she wanted to perform ‘Umrah, to go out to the Halam (the area outside the sacred precinct). He ordered her brother, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr, to take her out to the Halam. She entered ihram from the miqat, which is the Halam, from at-Tan‘im. She entered ihram from at-Tan‘im (may Allah be pleased with her), and it is the closest point of the Halam to Makkah. And so it is for others in Makkah who want to perform ‘Umrah; he goes out. This is the position of the majority of scholars and the consensus of most of them: that he goes out of Makkah and does not enter ihram from Makkah, but rather he enters ihram for ‘Umrah from the Halam, then he enters, performs tawaf, performs sa‘y, and shortens his hair or shaves it, and exits the state of ihram. As for the woman, she has only the shortening of hair; she performs tawaf, performs sa‘y, and shortens her hair, and she does not shave.
