What is the ruling on cursing a specific disbeliever?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : May Allah forgive you. What is the ruling on cursing a specific disbeliever?

The Shaykh : Alive or dead?

The questioner : Alive.

The Shaykh : I am asking you.

The questioner : The one who is alive.

The Shaykh : The one who is alive or the one who is dead? It is not permissible to do that. It is not permissible to curse a specific disbeliever if he is alive, because Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) forbade the best of the believers to invoke a curse upon the most stubborn of the disbelievers in his time. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to invoke a curse upon specific people from the disbelievers of Quraysh who were in rebellion, so Allah (Mighty and Majestic) forbade him and said to him:
Not for you, [O Muhammad, but for Allah], is the decision whether He should [cut them down] or forgive them or punish them لَيْسَ لَكَ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ أَوْ يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَوْ يُعَذِّبَهُمْ
[Ali 'Imran 3:128]
But after his death, is he to be cursed? It may be said that he is not to be cursed after death, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do not revile the dead, for they have passed on to what they sent before them. لا تسبوا الأموات فإنهم أفضوا إلى ما قدموا
Sahih Ibn Hibban 11:132
However, if he has a specific ideology, such as a communist who calls for communism or a Christian who calls for Christianity, then here we expose his misguidance and warn people against him. As for cursing him, there is no benefit in it, because he is a disbeliever who died upon disbelief and is already cursed; he does not need a supplication. Yes, that is correct.
