The questioner : What is the Shari'ah remedy for one afflicted by the evil eye? Some people have obsessive doubts and fear being struck by the evil eye, and they constantly ask people to remember Allah. Is this action of theirs correct?
The Shaykh : It is very clear in our recent era that people have been plagued by delusions and obsessive doubts. When they are afflicted with something ordinary, they say: "This is a jinn," or "This is the evil eye," or "This is sorcery." We do not deny that jinn may be sent against a human and possess him, nor do we deny that a person may be struck by the evil eye, nor do we deny that a person may be subjected to sorcery. However, we want this not to become a delusion among people. If it is decreed that someone is afflicted by such a thing, we ask Allah for health for us and for our Muslim brothers. He then seeks a remedy. The remedy for sorcery is to undo it; the remedy for sorcery is to undo it by finding it and then destroying it.
The remedy for the evil eye is to ask the one who cast the evil eye to take a bath, and the water that splashes from his bath is taken and given to the patient to drink and to be sprinkled on his body. This is part of the treatment.
The remedy for jinn is recitation: reciting the verses by which jinn are driven away, such as the Verse of the Throne[Al-Falaq 113:1] [An-Nas 114:1] and some of the verses of the chapter of the jinn, along with seeking help from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), relying on Him, depending on Him, and believing that His speech (Exalted and Majestic is He) is a healing for what is in the breasts. We ask Allah for safety for us and for our brothers from the evil of our own selves and from the evil of what He has created.
The questioner : O Allah, amen.
The Shaykh : Yes.
The questioner : May Allah preserve you.
