Explanation of the Book of Clothing-02b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Al-Layth narrated to us from Yazid ibn Abi Habib.

The Shaykh : How does it increase?

The questioner : From Yazid ibn Abi Habib.

The Shaykh : Why?
The reader: From Yazid ibn Abi Habib from Abi al-Khayr, from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
God’s Messenger was presented with a silk gown which he put on and wore while praying. Then when he withdrew he pulled it off vigorously as though he disapproved of it, saying, “This is not fitting for the pious.” أهدي لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم فرّوج حرير فلبسه، ثم صلى فيه، ثم انصرف، فنزعه نزعا شديدا، كالكاره له، ثم قال: لا ينبغي هذا للمتقين
Mishkat al-Masabih 759
.

The Shaykh : May Allah send prayers and peace upon him.
The reader: 'Abdullah ibn Yusuf followed him, from al-Layth, and he said: Other than that:
Silk garments فرّوج الحرير
.

The Shaykh : This is the apparent meaning, and Allah knows best, that the majority of it was silk, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it, and then afterwards he disliked it and said:
It is not the dress of Allah-fearing pious people. لا ينبغي هذا للمتقين
Sahih al-Bukhari 375
. And the meaning of "it is not fitting" is that it is not good or befitting for them to wear it, because the pious person fears Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and does not wear a garment that Allah has forbidden upon him.
