The questioner : This questioner mentions that she is a girl committed to her religion, and she praises Allah for that. She says: My problem is that my family refuses to let me leave the house at all, claiming that a girl going out is a disgrace and not permissible. And when I talk to my friends on the phone and they invite me for a visit, I do not know what to do. Guide me in this?

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that a woman not leaving her house is the best and most preferable, especially in times when young men frequently roam the markets. And the fact that your family does not approve of your going out may be a policy they see as being in your best interest. So I see that you should obey them in this and not go out. But if you need to go out, ask your father or one of the brothers to go with you, so that the hesitation and doubt in the minds of the family members may be removed.
