The reciter: Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to us, Wahib ibn Khalid narrated to us from Ayyub from Abdullah ibn Abi Mulaikah from Uqbah ibn al-Harith: .
The Shaykh : This is your question, Yasser.
Here,, upon whom?
Upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It was distressing to him to see a man from his Companions brought to him intoxicated, because it is distressing to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to see his Ummah in disobedience, as the Exalted said:[Ash-Shu'ara 26:3], [Al-Kahf 18:6].
And despite that, he ordered those in the house to beat him with palm branches and sandals, so they beat him, and so on.
So in it is the beating with palm branches and sandals, while people consider beating with sandals to be a greater crime, in our custom here. I do not know about your custom? They consider beating with sandals to be a greater crime, and they say that one does not beat with sandals except a disbeliever or a lizard. Do you know what a lizard is?
The leper lizard. In any case, it is well known. The common people say: one does not beat except a disbeliever and a lizard, even though the man who drank intoxicants was from the Companions and was beaten with sandals with the approval of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
What remains for us is his saying:, which indicates that his saying "drunk" in the first wording is a state of concomitance, meaning concomitant with what? With his arrival.
So here we say that the intoxicated person is of two types: a type who does not feel what is done to him and does not feel pain from it due to the strength of his intoxication, so the fixed punishment is not carried out on him in this state, because it has no effect on him.
And the second type of intoxication: intoxication in its final stage such that he feels pain and feels the beating, so the fixed punishment is carried out on him.
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was brought Nu'ayman, or the son of Nu'ayman, and he was intoxicated, so it was distressing to him, and he ordered those in the house to beat him, so they beat him with palm branches and sandals, and I was among those who beat him
أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أتي بنعيمان، أو بابن نعيمان، وهو سكران، فشق عليه، وأمر من في البيت أن يضربوه، فضربوه بالجريد والنعال، وكنت فيمن ضربهThe Shaykh : This is your question, Yasser.

Perhaps, [O Muhammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers.
لعلك باخع نفسك أن لا يكونوا مؤمنينThen perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow.
فلعلك باخع نفسك على آثارهم إن لم يؤمنوا بهذا الحديث أسفاAnd despite that, he ordered those in the house to beat him with palm branches and sandals, so they beat him, and so on.
