Explanation of the Book of Fitnahs and Rulings-05a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, saying: Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri.

The Shaykh : Now, Gog is one tribe and Magog is a second tribe, and that is why they came in the form of a conjunction in the saying of the Exalted:
indeed Gog and Magog
[Al-Kahf 18:94]
, contrary to what some people might assume that they are a single tribe. Rather, they are two tribes, but they are empowered over the believers.
The reciter: And Isma'il narrated to us, saying: My brother informed me, from Sulayman, from Muhammad ibn Abi 'Utaiq, from Ibn Shihab, from 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, that Zaynab bint Abi Sulaym narrated to him, from Umm Habib bint Abi Sufyan, from Zaynab bint Jahsh:
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon her one day in a state of alarm, saying: "There is no god but Allah. Woe to the Arabs from an evil that has drawn near. Today a breach has opened in the barrier of Gog and Magog like this," and he circled his thumb and the finger next to it. Zaynab bint Jahsh said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, will we perish while there are righteous people among us?" He said: "Yes, if the evil becomes abundant."
.

The Shaykh : May Allah be our helper. In this hadith, there is evidence that the type of evil brought by Gog and Magog had already opened in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), where he said:
as the barrier of Gog and Magog has been opened like it, and he (in order to explain it) made a ring with the help of his thumb and forefinger
Sahih Muslim 2880c
. This is either to be taken literally, which is the original meaning, or as a diminutive, because the Arabs use such estimation to indicate a small amount. In his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Woe to Arabs because of evil which has drawn near
Sunan Abi Dawud 4249
, why did he specify the Arabs? Because the Arabs are the bearers of the banner of the message, and the enemies dominate the Muslim Arabs more than others. Therefore, he specified the Arabs with this, although their evil is upon the Arabs and others. And in his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
There is no god but Allah.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3117Sahih (Al-Albani)
, before he clarified, is an indication that it is obligatory for us to hold fast to this great word, the word of sincerity, so that the evil of those who will emerge in the end times does not harm us. And in her saying: "O Messenger of Allah, will we perish while there are righteous people among us?", in this is evidence that the presence of righteous people in society is a cause for preventing their destruction. Thus, one of the blessings of righteousness is that Allah repels evil from people because of these righteous people. But if the righteous do not fulfill what is required of them in calling to Allah, advising the servants, enjoining good and forbidding evil, then the Exalted said:
And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in penalty.
[Al-Anfal 8:25]
. And in the hadith of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), he delivered a sermon and said: "O people, you recite this verse:
O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided
[Al-Ma'idah 5:105]
, and I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
If people see an evil and do not change it—or he said: do not disapprove of it—Allah will soon encompass them with punishment.
"
. And in his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Yes, if there is much wickedness.
Muwatta Malik 56:22
, what is the "evil" (khabath) here? Is it the evil matter, the evil doer, or both? Both. If the polytheists become numerous among the Muslims, the polytheists are impure and evil, and it is feared that we will perish. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Expel the polytheists from Arabia
Sunan Abi Dawud 3029Sahih (Al-Albani)
. And he said:
expel the Jews and the Christians from the Arabian Peninsula
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1606Sahih (Darussalam)
. And he said:
I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim.
Sahih Muslim 1767a
. Because the Jews, Christians, and polytheists are evil; if they are found in this peninsula and become numerous, its people will perish. This is with regard to the doer. Likewise, if the evil deed becomes abundant among the Muslims, they may perish, even if there is a righteous person among them who reduces the evil. And in truth, if we reflect upon this properly, we would find that this great multitude of disbelievers in our lands now, in their various categories, portends danger and is a cause of destruction for us. Although we do not doubt this, woe will come to the Arabs from an evil that has drawn near. Then he linked this destruction to the condition that the evil becomes abundant. The point of this hadith is his saying:
as the barrier of Gog and Magog has been opened like it, and he (in order to explain it) made a ring with the help of his thumb and forefinger.
Sahih Muslim 2880c
.
