I am just asking, do you want us to expand on the answer, even though some of you will miss out on the questions you have because time is limited, or do you want us to be brief?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I am just asking, do you want us to expand on the answer, even though some of you will miss out on the questions you have because time is limited, or do you want us to be brief? Being brief is more beneficial in the immediate sense, because we might be able to answer many questions. But being detailed is more beneficial in the long term, because we hope that these recorded tapes will be a lamp for people to follow in the future. So sometimes I prefer this and say: elaborate on the statement, because people may come later who confuse and mislead Allah’s servants. If a person has knowledge with which to dispel the expected doubts, let him speak it. And sometimes I say: let us fulfill the needs of our brothers who came, and they may have come from far away, and we are content with the answer: this is forbidden, this is obligatory, this is lawful, and we move on. What is your opinion?
Or should we keep it in the middle?

The questioner : In the middle.

The Shaykh : Okay, please go ahead.

The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Noble Shaykh, a man was afflicted with obsessive doubts, so he vowed that if Allah cured him, he would fast the white days. Allah cured him, and he started fasting the white days. Does he have to continue, meaning, in fasting them, even though he has started to feel bored, or what?

The Shaykh : First: Vowing is disliked, my brothers. It is disliked for a person to make a vow, whether for healing, or for success, or for the recovery of something lost to him, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
He forbade vowing نهى عن النذر
.
Second: If he vowed, and it is a vow of obedience, it is obligatory for him to fulfill it, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
Whoever vows that he will be obedient to Allah, should remain obedient to Him من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه
Sahih al-Bukhari 6696
And on this basis, it is obligatory for the brother who vowed to fast the white days to fast them every month, unless it was his intention to fast them in the month following the one in which Allah granted him the favor, in which case he is content with one month. But if he made it general, it is obligatory for him to fast them every month.

The questioner : He does not know; he is of the opinion that he will fast.

The Shaykh : Every month.

The questioner : He is of the opinion.

The Shaykh : He proceeds according to his predominant opinion.

The questioner : I mean, not just one month?

The Shaykh : No, he proceeds according to what is his predominant opinion, and he is rewarded for fulfilling the vow and drawing near to Allah by fasting these three days.
