Some people, when a rabid dog bites one of them, go to the Barzan tribe and take some of their blood and drink it, saying that there is no means of healing except their blood.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
May the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

The questioner : There are some people who, when a rabid dog or fox bites one of them, go to a tribe called the Barzan and take some of their blood and drink it, or buy it for a price. He knows that Allah is the Healer, but he insists and says that there is no blood other than that of this tribe that cures this, to the extent that a woman spilled her blood for someone who was afflicted with it. Some of them say that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) hosted them, they honored him, and he prayed for them that their blood is a cure. Is this correct or not?

The Shaykh : This is not correct, that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) hosted them, they honored him, and he prayed for them.
As for what you mentioned about their blood being used for healing, this is well-known among people, but it is not permissible in the Shari'ah. Why?
Because blood is forbidden by the text of the Qur'an. The Exalted said:
Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةُ وَالدَّمُ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
, and the Exalted said:
Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out قُلْ لا أَجِدُ فِي مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّماً عَلَى طَاعِمٍ يَطْعَمُهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ مَيْتَةً أَوْ دَماً مَسْفُوحاً
[Al-An'am 6:145]
.
And if it is forbidden, then there is no healing in it, because Allah has not made the healing of this Ummah in what He has forbidden for them. Therefore, we prohibit this thing, and we say: this is something with no basis. And Allah, praise be to Him, has now opened many doors for medicine and blood purification. They can go to the hospitals and purify their blood from this foul blood, or from this foul bite. Yes?

The questioner : O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : The adhan is between us and you because it is approaching.

The questioner : They are still, up to now, meaning they are stubborn, saying, "No, surely there is nothing but their blood that heals, once."

The Shaykh : This is not correct. I told you: if Allah forbids something, how can there be healing in it?

The questioner : They cite the verse.

The Shaykh : and it is?

The questioner : The end of it is what is forbidden to you.

The Shaykh : That is
But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit] فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلا عَادٍ
[Al-Baqarah 2:173]
.

The questioner :
He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him
[Al-Baqarah 2:173]
They cite this verse.

The Shaykh : Yes, but who says that the healing is with this blood?

The questioner : They say, "Surely, they say: Allah is the Healer, Glorified is He."

The Shaykh : That is not correct.

The questioner : But once, there was none, even a woman spilled her blood for the one.

The Shaykh : But in any case, if Allah wills, she will be rewarded for her intention. It is said: "Guard your blood in your body, do not spill it."

The questioner : This is the belief of the people of old!

The Shaykh : I understand. I told you: this thing is well-known among people, but we say: it is not permissible. Everything that is forbidden is not permissible except in dire necessity. What is dire necessity? Dire necessity is that we know that if the person does this thing, his necessity is removed, and we know that his necessity cannot be removed except by this thing.
Meaning, there is no dire necessity except with two conditions:
That we know that his necessity will not be removed except by this thing.
And that we know that his necessity will be removed by it. For this reason, if a person becomes hungry until he fears death, he eats carrion, because we know that he will be sated and death will be lifted from him.

The questioner : In dire necessity, O Shaykh, do they drink from their blood or not?

The Shaykh : They do not drink.
