What is the ruling on completing the prayer with a latecomer in the case of making up what he missed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The one after him, please.

The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner : What is the ruling on following a follower, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Following a follower?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : How does one follow a follower?

The questioner : If a person is with the imam in the second tashahhud, and when the imam finishes the prayer, a person comes and follows this follower.

The Shaykh : I mean: following a latecomer in the case of making up what he missed, is that it?

The questioner : Yes, yes.

The Shaykh : All right, the scholars said: there is nothing wrong with that, so this follower transitions from following to leading, but with this, we do not advise doing so:
First: because it is not reported from the Companions that a person, when making up what he missed with the imam, prays it as a congregation.
Second: some scholars said: this is not valid, so avoid this as a precaution based on the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt. دع ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5711Sahih (Darussalam)
and in his saying:
So he, who saves himself from these doubtful things, saves his religion and his honor من اتقى الشبهات فقد استبرأ لدينه وعرضه
Bulugh al-Maram 16:32
so it should not be done, even if permissibility is claimed, yes.
