Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I am a nineteen-year-old girl. When my monthly period came during the blessed month of Ramadan, it ended, and then three days after its end, the blood returned and continued with me for the rest of the month of Ramadan. I fasted on those days when the blood returned to me and I prayed. Do I have to make up the fasting for those days or not?

The Shaykh : If this blood that affected you is irregular non-menstrual bleeding, meaning it continued with you for the whole month or most of it, then you do not have to make up the fast, because irregular non-menstrual bleeding does not prevent fasting or prayer.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : As for if it is menstrual blood, such that it passed through you on known days and then stopped, then you must make up the fast for the days you fasted in, because fasting is not valid with menstrual blood.

The questioner : Yes, you have done well, also ..

The Shaykh : Then, on this occasion, I would like to clarify to women that one of the most common causes of irregularity and disturbance in the monthly cycle is taking pills that prevent menstruation. Although these pills that prevent menstruation are permissible in the original Shari'ah in themselves.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : But due to the irregularity and disturbance they cause in the cycle, we forbid women from taking them. Also, it appears to us that they are harmful to the woman, because retaining something that nature is meant to expel undoubtedly affects the body as a reaction.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Therefore, we warn women against using these pills that prevent menstruation because of the harms we have mentioned, even though, according to what the scholars have said, there is no harm in them.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Her second and final question, she says.
