Can a person be afflicted in his religion and deviate because of the evil eye? Does he sin for that? And what is the cure?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. Can a person be afflicted in his religion and deviate because of the evil eye? Does he sin for that? And what is the cure?

The Shaykh : Yes, a person may be afflicted by the evil eye in everything, in every blessing, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And from the evil of an envier when he envies." وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
[Al-Falaq 113:5]
And in the common proverbs that are widespread: "Every possessor of a blessing is envied". A religious person may be afflicted by the evil eye, and his chest may become constricted regarding worship, or he may be afflicted by the evil eye and forget what he had memorized, or he may be afflicted by the evil eye and be unable to memorize. As for the evil eye—may Allah grant us safety from it—the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said about it:
If the decree had preceded something, the evil eye would have preceded it.
The cure for that is to look for the one who cast the eye to do what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded, until the eye is removed. If that is not possible, then by much recitation and seeking forgiveness, and by frequently saying: "There is no god but You, glory to You, indeed I was among the wrongdoers." For Allah the Exalted said:
So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers.
[Al-Anbya 21:88]
And this phrase, whoever says it sincerely in a state of distress, Allah the Exalted will remove it from him, because Allah said, and He is the truest of speakers and the most capable of doers:
And thus We save the believers.
So he should repent, seek forgiveness, and increase in seeking forgiveness, repentance, remembrance, and recitation, and say: "There is no god but You, glory to You, indeed I was among the wrongdoers," and say: "O Allah, I place You in their throats, and I seek refuge in You from their evils," and the like of such seeking of refuge.

The questioner : Does he deviate completely such that he leaves what he is upon?

The Shaykh : As for the issue of deviation, I do not know, but that his chest becomes constricted regarding the worship for which he was envied, that is possible.

The questioner : And does he sin for it? Does he sin for that?

The Shaykh : Allah said:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
But committing forbidden acts, for that he sins. Yes.
