The questioner : What happens in Egypt when a man or woman dies is that the women cry and put dirt and clay on themselves

The Shaykh : We seek refuge in Allah.

The questioner : and say that separation is difficult. Is this correct or wrong? We ask for your guidance?

The Shaykh : This is wrong, a great error, because it is obligatory for a person to be pleased with Allah as his Lord, and to be pleased with His decree and divine decree, so he does not become angry or do anything that indicates dissatisfaction. So putting dirt or clay on themselves because of this calamity and saying that separation is difficult, all of this is among the matters that include objecting to the divine decree and not being pleased with Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). It may be similar to tearing one's clothes and slapping one's cheeks, from which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disavowed the doer, saying
He who slaps his cheeks ليس منا من لطم الخدود
Sahih al-Bukhari 1294
or he said
strikes his cheeks, rends his garment, and calls the calls of the Jahiliyyah ضرب الخدود وشق الجيوب ودعا بدعوى الجاهلية
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1862Sahih (Darussalam)
.
And the wise, discerning person knows that this dissatisfaction has no benefit.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : In addition to being a harm in religion, it has no benefit in this world because it will not turn back the calamity; rather, it will increase the calamity. For this reason, some of the Salaf said: either you be patient with the patience of the noble, or you forget with the forgetting of beasts. A person must forget this calamity as time passes. If it is necessary to forget it, then being patient with the patience of the noble, for which he is rewarded, is better than him being distressed and dissatisfied, and then in the end forgetting it just as a beast forgets.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
