The reciter: Ibn Abi Umar and Muhammad ibn Hatim narrated to us from Ibn Uyaynah. Ibn Abi Umar said: Sufyan narrated to us from Amr ibn Dinar from Kuraib, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas: Sahih Muslim 763f.
The Shaykh : May Allah send prayers and peace upon him. This is authentic, as previously mentioned. In his statement "a light ablution," there is evidence that one should not ... in ablution, nor exaggerate beyond the Sunnah. Lightness is better if it conforms to the Sunnah. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was influenced by this, so he would perform a light ablution in all his circumstances, to the point that one would hardly see a drop of water falling from his limbs on the ground due to the extreme lightness. The opposite was Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who would be strict, to the point that he would wash his eyes, and in the end, he lost his sight.
The Shaykh : Come, Ya Taha, come in place of Khalid.
The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may prayers and peace be upon the Seal of the Prophets.
Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the Book of the Prayer of the Traveler and its Shortening.
Ibn `Abbas reported that he spent a night in the house of his maternal aunt, Maimuna. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) got up at night and performed a short ablution (taking water) from the water-skin hanging there. (Giving a description of the ablution Ibn `Abbas said: It was short and performed with a little water.) I also got up and did the same as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had done. I then came (to him) and stood on his left. He then made me go around to his right side. He then observed prayer and went to sleep till he began to snore. Bilal came to him and informed him about the prayer. He (the Holy Prophet) then went out and observed the dawn prayer without performing ablution. Sufyan said: It was a special (prerogative of the) Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) for it has been conveyed to us that the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sleep, but his heart does not sleep.
The Shaykh : May Allah send prayers and peace upon him.
