Benefits of the Hadith: (… I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Read the Qur'an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions.

The Shaykh : This also contains the virtue of the Qur'an in general. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Read the Qur'an اقرؤوا القرآن
This includes reciting it from memory or by looking at the text. Whoever does this or that has complied. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) specified after generalizing and said:
Recite the Qur'an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It. اقرؤوا القرآن فإنه يأتي يوم القيامة شفيعا لأصحابه
Sahih Muslim 804a
This was confusing for some people, and they asked how the Qur'an, which is the speech of Allah, comes as an intercessor for its companions on the Day of Resurrection, and does this imply that it is a body that defends? The answer is that there is no difficulty, because the matters of the Hereafter are not measured by the matters of this world. Just as Allah the Exalted makes death, which is a concept meaning the separation from life, appear on the Day of Resurrection in the form of a ram brought between Paradise and the Fire, and it is said to the people of the Fire, "Do you know this?" and likewise to the people of Paradise, and then it is slaughtered, and it is said, "O people of Paradise, eternal abode and no death, and O people of the Fire, eternal abode and no death." So it is with the Qur'an; Allah the Exalted makes it come in the form of one who defends its reader. As for his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
It comes as an intercessor يأتي شفيعا
The word "intercessor" is derived from "intercession," which originally means making the odd number even, and in terminology it means mediating for another to bring benefit or ward off harm.
