Continuation of the Explanation of the Hadith of 'Umarah: That a Jewish woman came to 'A'ishah to ask her, and she said, "May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave." 'A'ishah said, "So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, are people punished in the graves?'"

The Shaykh :[Ghafir 40:46] His saying: [Ghafir 40:46], then he said: [Ar-Rum 30:12]: indicates that this presentation was before the Hour, and among that is the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He): [Al-An'am 6:93], "Today," when? The day of bringing out your souls, and this indicates the punishment of the grave, and it is explicit in that.
As for the Sunnah, it is either mutawatir or close to mutawatir, and if we wished, we could say: it is mutawatir. By what? By the saying of the Muslims in general: "I seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of Hellfire and from the punishment of the grave." The Muslims say it every day, in every prayer. They are transmitting it from whom? From the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And this is among the greatest of what can be of mutawatir, practical mutawatir, and the people of the Sunnah are in agreement on that. But will the punishment be upon the body or upon the soul or upon both? The original principle is that the matters of the Hereafter are upon the soul; this is the original principle. But it may connect to the body sometimes. And so, if you were to examine the body after his death, even if the body were that of a disbeliever, you would not find in it any trace of the punishment, because the original principle is that the punishment is upon the soul. But it may connect to the body, and some bodies may be seen burned after being buried. And this saying is the stronger position: that the original principle in the punishment of the grave is that it is upon the soul, but it may connect to the body. So a person should seek refuge from the punishment of the grave. And the saying of the Messenger (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 1476Sahih (Darussalam), "fitnah" means the test. Every person is tested regarding three matters, which are the three fundamentals upon which Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab (may Allah have mercy on him) built his message regarding his Lord, his religion, and his Prophet.
The Fire, they are exposed to it morning and evening. And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment."

ويوم تقوم الساعةAnd if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels extend their hands, [saying], "Discharge your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant."
As for the Sunnah, it is either mutawatir or close to mutawatir, and if we wished, we could say: it is mutawatir.
