The Book of Hajj-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Sulayman ibn 'Ubayd Allah, Abu Ayyub al-Ghaylani, said: Abu 'Amir, 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Amr, said: 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Abi Sulayman al-Majishun,

The Shaykh : al-Majishun: He says: I have in the margin a transliteration, a transliteration of "Mahakun." 'Ubayd Allah is present. What is the meaning of "Mahakun"?

The questioner : 'Ubayd Allah: The moon.

The Shaykh : The moon, yes? Leave me alone with what is in the book you have. Did you reach your limit?

The questioner : 'Ubayd Allah: ... our language is Persian ... the moon, and it is originally used in the sense of ...?

The Shaykh : The point is, he says I have "Mahakun," which means resembling the moon.
The student: It means the one with the moon.

The Shaykh : It means the one with the moon. What is the meaning of "the one with the moon," or what?
The student: It means "Mahakun." It is said "the full moon is Mahakani," meaning the one with the moon.

The Shaykh : That is, the full moon.
The reciter: Does it mean he was handsome and well-proportioned?

The Shaykh : That is the apparent meaning. The apparent meaning is that he was handsome.
The reciter: From 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim, from his father, from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), mentioning nothing but Hajj, until we reached Saraf, when I began to menstruate. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was weeping and asked: What is making you cry? I said: By Allah, I wish I had not set out this year. He said: What is wrong with you? Perhaps you have given birth? I said: Yes. He said: This is something Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam. Do what the pilgrims do, except do not circumambulate the House until you are purified. She said: When we arrived in Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions: Make it an 'Umrah. So the people exited the state of ihram, except those who had sacrificial animals with them. She said: The sacrificial animals were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr, 'Umar, and those of means. Then they declared their intention when they departed. She said: When the Day of Sacrifice came, I was purified, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to complete my rites. She said: We were brought beef, and I said: What is this?

The Shaykh : The apparent meaning of her statement:
She has become pure. طهرت
is: I became purified, as evidenced by the fact that she was purified on the Day of 'Arafah. She said: We were brought beef, and I said: What is this? They said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed cows on behalf of his wives.
This supports what we mentioned
He sacrificed cows on their behalf as a 'Id sacrifice. ضحى عنهن بالبقر
that the intended meaning is the sacrificial animal, but he slaughtered it as a 'Id sacrifice.
The reciter:
When it was the night of al-Husba, I said: O Messenger of Allah, the people are returning with a Hajj and an 'Umrah, while I am returning with only a Hajj? She said: He ordered 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr to place me behind him on his camel. She said: I remember, while I was a young girl, dozing off and the back of the saddle would hit my face, until we reached at-Tan'im, where I declared my intention for an 'Umrah, as compensation for the 'Umrah of the people who had performed 'Umrah.
.

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. Yes.
