The Book of Hajj-05a
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Reciter: Ibn Numayr narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: 'Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Sulayman narrated to us, from 'Ata, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: We entered the state of ihram for Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When we arrived in Makkah, he ordered us to break our state of ihram and make it 'Umrah. This was a great burden for us, and our hearts were distressed by it. When this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we did not know whether it was something that reached him from the sky or something from the people. He said: "O people, break your state of ihram. If it were not for the sacrificial animals I have with me, I would have done as you did." He said: So we broke our state of ihram until we had intercourse with our women and did what a person in a state of ihram is not permitted to do. Then, when the Day of Tarwiyah came and we turned our backs to Makkah, we entered the state of ihram for Hajj.
