The questioner : From al-Qasim, and this message reached us from al-Qasim, and from Buraydah, from the sender T.M.B. They say, “We have a boy and a girl, and they are ten years old, and the girl is eleven years old. Some money comes to them from the visitors who come to us, or from our relatives, and they buy with this money, which amounts to ten and twenty, up to a hundred. Is it permissible for us to deceive them and lie to take this money from them, or not?”

The Shaykh : These are young children, and it is obligatory for their guardians not to allow them to play with their money, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And do not give the weak-minded your property, which Allah has made a means of sustenance for you ولا تؤتوا السفهاء أموالكم التي جعل الله لكم قياما
[An-Nisa 4:5]
and His saying:
And test the orphans [in their abilities] until they reach marriageable age. Then if you perceive in them sound judgement, release their property to them. وابتلوا اليتامى حتى إذا بلغوا النكاح فإن ءانستم منهم رشدا فادفعوا إليهم أموالهم
[An-Nisa 4:6]
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And preserving money is an obligatory matter. So these, this boy and this girl, the money given to them is taken if it is a large amount, and they are given from it what pleases their souls, to buy with it what they amuse themselves with, from what is permissible for their like, and the rest is preserved for them. This is what is obligatory for their guardians.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : As for allowing them to play with money, this is forbidden for their guardians to allow them to do so.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.

The questioner : You have done well, may Allah reward you. O gentlemen, we have reached the end of this session in which we presented the questions of the honorable questioners from Jeddah, E.M.S., and Kamil Muhammad al-Attar, or al-Ata, from the Arab Republic of Egypt, from Qena, and Mahmoud Raman from Jordan, and the sender T.M.B. from al-Qasim, Buraydah, who asked about deceiving children to take money from them for the purpose of not causing corruption and losing it.
We presented these questions and inquiries to His Eminence Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, professor at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in al-Qasim, and imam and preacher of the Great Mosque in the city of Unaizah.
Thank you to His Eminence Shaykh Muhammad, and thank you, O brothers. Until we meet with your presence, we entrust you to Allah, and peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
