The reader: As for after: Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "And what indicates what we have mentioned is: what Muslim narrated in *his Sahih* from 'Amir ibn Yasir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The lengthening of prayer by a man and the shortness of the sermon is the sign of his understanding (of faith). So lengthen the prayer and shorten the sermon, for there is charm (in precise) expression. إن طول صلاة الرجل، وقِصر خطبته، مَئِنَّةٌ من فقهه، فأطيلوا الصلاة، وأقصروا الخُطبة وإن من البيان لسحرا
Sahih Muslim 869
He made the length of the prayer a sign of a man's understanding and commanded its lengthening. This command is either general for all prayers, or it refers specifically to the Friday prayer. If the wording is general, it is clear. If it refers to the Friday prayer: if he commanded its lengthening, while the congregation in it is large, containing the weak, the elderly, and those with needs, unlike other prayers, and while it is performed in intense heat, preceded by two sermons: then the Fajr prayer and similar ones, which are performed in the cold, with a small congregation, are more deserving and more appropriate. There are many hadiths on this.
We mentioned this to explain what is in the hadith of Anas regarding the estimation of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); for one who hears these hadiths might think there is a type of contradiction in them, or some people might hold to some of them and not others, while being ignorant of the meaning of what they hold to.
As for the aforementioned hadith of Anas "

As for the aforementioned hadith of Anas, from the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do not impose austerities on yourselves and so have God imposing austerities on you; for people have imposed austerities on themselves and God has imposed austerities on them. Their survivors are to be found in cells and monasteries.” [Then he quoted], “Monasticism, they invented it; we did not prescribe it for them.”
Mishkat al-Masabih 181Isnād Da'īf (Zubair `Aliza'i)
. In it is the prohibition by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of being severe in religion by adding to what is prescribed.
Being severe is sometimes by adopting what is not obligatory or recommended, treating it as obligatory or recommended in acts of worship. And sometimes by adopting what is not forbidden or disliked, treating it as forbidden or disliked in lawful things. He explained this by saying that those who were severe with themselves among the Christians, Allah was severe with them for that, until the matter ended up in the monasticism they invented.
In this is an indication of the dislike of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of what the Christians are upon, namely the invented monasticism, even though many of our worshippers have fallen into some of that, either interpreting it and being excused, or not interpreting it. In it is also an indication that "
