What is the ruling on favoring one of the wives with the consent of the others?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner is Egyptian and resides in al-Zulfi. He has used the initials (A. A. A) for his name. He says: Your Eminence, a friend of mine is asking about the ruling on a married man who favors his second wife despite the approval of the first wife, while also taking care of the first wife. What is the ruling in this matter?
May Allah reward you.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
It is obligatory for the husband to be just between the two wives, or the three, or the four. This is his obligation. However, if he gives special attention to one of them with the consent of the others, there is no harm if they consent. But justice among them is obligatory in his division of time, in his night and day. It is obligatory for him to be just, and in financial maintenance as well, unless one of them has children with him, in which case he spends on her according to the number of children she has. Justice is a necessary matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said when he was informed about his situation with his wives: “O Allah, indeed I divide [my time] and am just, and I say:
O Allah, this is my division concerning what I control, so do not blame me concerning what You control and I do not.اللهم هذا قسمي فيما أملك، فلا تلمني فيما تملك ولا أملك
Sunan Abi Dawud 2134
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man has two wives and he is inclined to one of them, he will come on the Day of resurrection with a side hanging down.من كانت له زوجتان فمال إلى إحداهما جاء يوم القيامة وشقه مائل
Sunan Abi Dawud 2133Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
Therefore, justice and carefulness in his division and in other matters are obligatory, except for what concerns the hearts. That is up to Allah. If he has intercourse with one more often, or if he finds more comfort with one, that concerns the hearts, and he has no control over it. But in division of time and financial maintenance, he must be just.
As for love and intercourse, justice is not obligatory in them, but rather it is according to what is facilitated by his desire. If one of them has children and the other does not, he spends on the one with children according to the number of her children, and on the other according to her need. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
