The questioner : His third question states: We hear most people say that one who has performed the farewell tawaf must not stay overnight in the vicinity of Makkah at all, and if he sleeps that night in Makkah, he is required to perform the tawaf again around the House. Is this correct or not? Because sometimes we leave in that situation, arriving exhausted and unable to leave before taking rest in Makkah, and performing the tawaf again is difficult for us due to the crowds of pilgrims present. Thank you.

The Shaykh : The farewell tawaf must be the last of a person’s actions, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No one should depart until his last act is at the House. لا ينفر أحد حتى يكون ءاخر عهده بالبيت
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:969
and Abu Dawud has:
until he performs the last circumambulation of the House (the Ka'bah). حتى يكون ءاخر عهده الطواف بالبيت
Sunan Abi Dawud 2002Sahih (Al-Albani)
Therefore, prepare yourself so that you do not leave or perform the farewell tawaf until you have finished all your affairs, and then leave immediately.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : However, a person is permitted after the farewell tawaf to pray if the time for prayer has entered, and to buy a need on his way while walking. As for staying in Makkah, if he stays, he must repeat the farewell tawaf. Therefore, there is no blame on you if you leave the boundaries of the Noble Makkah, then stay overnight on the road, rest, and then resume your journey.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
