The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “O wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other women. If you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease be tempted, and speak a moderate speech.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allah
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
From this noble verse, the distinction and special status of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) are derived, based on His saying:
you are not like anyone among women
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
If you ask, “What is the wisdom behind the fact that they are not like any other women?” the answer is that they are under the authority of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who is the purest of the pure among creation. And Allah the Exalted said:
And the good things are for the good people وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ
[Al-Nur: 26].
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that a person may be elevated by the status of those with whom he is associated. Where is this derived from? From the status of the Mothers of the Believers through their connection to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged good company and said:
the owner of musk would either offer you free of charge or you would buy it from him or you would. smell its pleasant odour
Sahih Muslim 2628
He also warned against bad company, because a person is elevated by the status of those he associates with and lowered by the lowliness of those he associates with.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the obligation of taqwa (mindfulness of Allah), even for the wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), based on His saying:
If you fear Allah إن

Among its benefits is the prohibition of a woman being soft in speech when addressing men, based on His saying:
then do not be soft in speech
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
If you ask, “Is this not specific to the wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) due to their status and honor, so that they are kept away from situations of fitnah (trial)? If you say this, what is the answer?” The answer is that if the wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), who are the purest of women and the most distant from fitnah, are prohibited from being soft in speech, and this prohibition is explained by the fear of temptation in the heart of one who has a disease, then the ruling follows its cause, existing when the cause exists and ceasing when it ceases. If this applies to pure, blameless women, then it is even more applicable to others. And if the cause is the fear of temptation in the heart of one who has a disease, this cause is not specific to the wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Accordingly, it is forbidden for a woman to be soft in speech to anyone, except to her mahrams (close relatives), provided there is also safety from fitnah. That is, even with mahrams,
The devil flows in a man like his blood.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4719Sahih (Al-Albani)
perhaps fitnah may occur due to her softness in speech, especially with mahrams by milk-kinship or in-laws, because the natural aversion to mahrams by milk-kinship or in-laws is less than the aversion to mahrams by blood relation. This is an observed reality. Therefore, one must be more cautious with mahrams by milk-kinship and in-laws than with mahrams by blood relation. Yes.
The student: What if it is her maternal or paternal uncle by milk-kinship?

The Shaykh : Yes, that is right.
The student: ...
The Shaykh : Not in all cases. The closer the kinship, the more a person is averse to having a lustful attachment to them; the aversion is greater.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that there is no harm in a woman addressing men, but only in a known (good) manner. Where is this derived from? From His saying:
but speak with appropriate speech.
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
.
Among its benefits is that a woman’s voice is not an awrah (part of the body that must be covered), contrary to those who said it is an awrah among the scholars. The correct view is that a woman’s voice is not an awrah. For this reason, women used to come to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask him questions while his Companions were around him, and he did not prohibit them from doing so. If a woman’s voice were an awrah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have prohibited them from speaking in the presence of men. Yes.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that it is obligatory for a person to follow what the Shari'ah has brought in his words and actions, based on His saying:
but speak with appropriate speech.
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the fitnah of women is a disease in the heart that requires a person to seek treatment and healing, based on the saying:
lest he in whose heart is disease should covet
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
This disease is a fatal disease; we ask Allah for safety from it. It is a disease in the heart like cancer in the body. If Allah does not save the servant with His forgiveness, guidance, and direction, he will perish. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have not left behind me a trial more injurious to men than women.
Mishkat al-Masabih 3085
It is obligatory to be cautious of this matter and not to indulge oneself or give oneself time in this regard.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that whoever has a sound heart is the farthest of people from places of fitnah, based on His saying:
lest he in whose heart is disease should covet
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that if Allah makes a person’s heart sound, a woman will not tempt him with the causes of fitnah, because He said:
do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
and did not say, “Do not be soft in speech, lest people be tempted by you,” but rather said:
lest he in whose heart is disease should covet
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
However, even if a person has a sound, healthy heart, if he feels something of fitnah in himself, it is obligatory for him to distance himself from it. He should not say, “I am sound, and praise be to Allah, this matter does not concern me.” He should not say this, because a person may see himself as protected by the fortress of taqwa, but Shaytan deceives him at places of fitnah. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the one who hears about the Dajjal to distance himself from him, meaning to stay far away. Because a person may come to him while believing he is a believer, and he will not stop casting doubts at him until he follows him.
Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
