Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And the Day He will gather them all, then He will say to the angels: 'Are these the ones who used to worship you?'"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He said: "And remember the Day We will gather them all, then We will say to the angels"
The student: How...?

The Shaykh : What ... said:"And remember the Day when We will gather them all together"The author has estimated the value of "remember" because "if" is a temporal adverb, and a temporal adverb, like a prepositional phrase, must have a governing word. This governing word can be mentioned or implied, as in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death وَلَوْ تَرَى إِذِ الظَّالِمُونَ فِي غَمَرَاتِ الْمَوْتِ
[al-An'am:93] Is the governing word mentioned or omitted?
And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death وَلَوْ تَرَى إِذِ الظَّالِمُونَ فِي غَمَرَاتِ الْمَوْتِ
[Al-An'am 6:93]
Mentioned
see ترى
And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved وَلَوْ تَرَى إِذْ يَتَوَفَّى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا الْمَلائِكَةُ
[Al-Anfal 8:50]
The operative word here is mentioned, and it may be omitted, which is common in the Qur'an. Here the operative word
A day يوم
is omitted, and "remember"
the Day We will gather them يوم يحشرهم
I said that day as a warning and to instill fear, because this day is a great day. And his saying:
We will gather them all يحشرهم جميعاً _ نحشرهم جميعاً
We will gather them نحشرهم
means "We will gather them," and
all جميعاً
is a state (hal) of the pronoun in his saying:
We will gather them نحشرهم
And when will that be? Allah the Exalted said:
The Day He will assemble you for the Day of Assembly - that is the Day of Deprivation يَوْمَ يَجْمَعُكُمْ لِيَوْمِ الْجَمْعِ ذَلِكَ يَوْمُ التَّغَابُنِ
[التغابن:9] This will be on the Day of Resurrection, when Allah the Exalted gathers the first and the last. Allah the Exalted said:
(49) Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples (50) Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." قُلْ إِنَّ الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ * لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ
[الواقعة49:50] And He the Exalted said:
That is a Day for which the people will be collected, and that is a Day [which will be] witnessed. ذَلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَجْمُوعٌ لَهُ النَّاسُ وَذَلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَشْهُودٌ
[هود:103]
We will gather them all نحشرهم جميعاً
namely the polytheists
and then say to the angels, "Did these [people] used to worship you?" ثُمَّ يَقُولُ لِلْمَلائِكَةِ أَهَؤُلاءِ إِيَّاكُمْ كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ
[Saba 34:40]
His statement:
Did these [people] used to worship you?" أَهَؤُلاءِ إِيَّاكُمْ كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ
[Saba 34:40]
The hamzah is for interrogation, and
These هؤلاء
What is its grammatical analysis? It is a fronted object for "they worship," or it is a subject and the object is
Beware إياكم
Because "they worship" is empty, meaning it did not take its object, and if it did not take its object, then what preceded it becomes the object. Now, is it permissible to front the object of the predicate of "kana" over it? The answer is yes, it is permissible, and this has passed us in the chapter of "kana" and its sisters, that it is permissible to front its predicate and it is permissible to front the dependent of its predicate. Allah the Exalted said:
Unquestionably, on the Day it comes to them, it will not be averted from them أَلا يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمْ لَيْسَ مَصْرُوفًا عَنْهُمْ
[Hud 11:8]
The operator of the predicate was placed before the particle; here, the operator of the predicate was placed before the particle.
Beware إياكم
the object of
they used to worship يعبدون
meaning, were these the ones who used to worship you? However, the pronoun was separated because of its advancement. He said:
Are these the ones you used to worship أهؤلاء إياكم
by pronouncing both hamzas and changing the first one to a ya.... We have two hamzas: the hamza of
These هؤلاء
and the hamza of
Beware إياكم
There are three recitations:
The first reading: "Realizing both hamzas". The description of its pronunciation is
Are these the ones you used to worship أهؤلاءِ إِياكم
.
The second reading: He says: "And changing the first one to a yaa".
Are these the ones you used to worship أهؤلاي إياكم
.
The third: "Dropping the first hamza".
Are these the ones you used to worship أهؤلا إياكم
without a hamza.
The student: Dropping the first one.
These _ Are these هؤلاء _ أهؤلاء
.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Dropping the first one.
