The questioner : It is observed that many people yawn frequently in the mosque while sitting and during prayer. What are the reasons for this, may Allah preserve you, and what is the solution or remedy for it?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, the Imam of the righteous, and the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment. Yawning, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, is from Shaytan, and it is a sign of laziness, drowsiness, and sleep. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that a person should hold back his yawn as much as he can, meaning he should prevent it as much as he can. If he cannot, he should place his hand over his mouth. If it is from Shaytan, then a person should be present in heart and direct himself to what he was engaged in, whether it is worship, recitation, listening to dhikr, listening to a khutbah, or something else. By doing this, it will be removed and put to an end. Yes.
