The ruling on seeking refuge with Allah when yawning

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: At the end of his letter, he says: Is it obligatory for me to seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan when I yawn, whether in prayer or otherwise?
The answer: As far as we know, seeking refuge with Allah is not prescribed specifically for yawning. However, it is prescribed for the one who yawns to hold it in as much as he can, to hold his mouth shut as much as he can, and to place his hand over his mouth. He should not say "ha," nor speak any words. Rather, he should strive to hold it in and place his hand over his mouth, because if he opens his mouth wide, it becomes an unsightly appearance. He should do this, as the Sunnah has come, by placing his hand over his mouth, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded this. He said:
If one of you yawns, let him hold it in as much as he can, and let him place his hand over his mouth, and let him not say "ha," for Shaytan laughs at him.إذا تثاءب أحدكم فليكظم ما استطاع، وليضع يده على فيه، ولا يقول: ها، فإن الشيطان يضحك منه
or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
Therefore, the believer should, when he yawns, hold it in as much as he can and place his hand over his mouth. As for saying "I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan," we do not know of anything specific reported in this matter. However, some people do this because they know that yawning is from Shaytan. For this reason, many of the common people do so, because they have learned that this is from Shaytan. Otherwise, we do not know of anything in the Sunnah that has come in this chapter. There is no doubt that yawning is from Shaytan. It is prescribed for the believer when he feels laziness, or when something that harms him occurs from the enemy of Allah, to seek refuge with Allah from Shaytan, to increase in the remembrance of Allah, and to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). But we do not know of anything specific reported in this particular issue. So, if one seeks refuge with Allah from Shaytan when yawning, knowing that it is from Shaytan, there is no blame on him. But we do not say that it is a recommended practice (sunnah) due to the lack of evidence. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may Allah bless you.
