The Remedy for Excessive Yawning in the Fajr Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message—may Allah prolong your life—regarding yawning in the Fajr prayer, sent by Muhsin al-Katib al-Kahrabai from the al-Sisi Foundation in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. He requests that this message be presented to His Eminence Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz. He says: May Allah prolong our lives in your lifespan, protect you from the evil of dangers, and preserve you for us from all harm forever. I yawn a lot, especially in the Fajr prayer, which greatly hinders me from praying. It may strike me four or five times specifically in the Fajr prayer. I am anxious because of this yawning, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us is from Shaytan. How can I protect myself from it? Please advise us. May Allah reward us with good for Islam and the Muslims?
Answer: Yawning is undoubtedly from Shaytan, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 5028Sahih (Al-Albani), and he informed that , and that the Sunnah for the believer when he yawns is to suppress it as much as he can, to place his hand over his mouth, and not to say "haah," for Shaytan laughs at him. So the Sunnah regarding the matter of yawning is to suppress it as much as one can, not to speak when yawning, and to place one's hand over one's mouth. If a person is afflicted with it, he treats it with whatever means he is able to use to remove it. It generally arises from laziness, fullness, and satiety. Perhaps you, O questioner, delay your sleep, so when you rise for Fajr, you rise lazy and weak, having not taken your share of sleep; therefore, you are struck by much yawning in the Fajr prayer.
So my advice to you, O questioner, is to sleep early so that you take a large, good share of sleep and wake up active and well. I also advise you that when you rise from sleep, you do what Allah has prescribed by saying:Sunan Abi Dawud 5060Sahih (Al-Albani). Thus the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us when rising from night sleep. You should say this when you rise from sleep at the end of the night, saying: Sunan Abi Dawud 5060Sahih (Al-Albani). And likewise, if you wake up during the night, if you wake up during the night, you say this as well. And you also say when rising at the end of the night: . With this, this yawning will be removed, if Allah wills; because it is from Shaytan, and dhikr drives away Shaytan, and sleeping early removes the laziness and weakness that befalls one who delays his sleep. If sleeping early is combined with the remembrance of Allah when rising from sleep, then Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) will remove this yawning from you. Likewise, the lawful wudu' helps with that. So you must do what Allah has prescribed of sleeping early and of dhikr upon waking, and Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) will help you and remove from you this evil that you have been afflicted by and are anxious about. Yes.
Answer: Yawning is undoubtedly from Shaytan, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah likes sneezing but dislikes yawning
إن الله يحب العطاس ويكره التثاؤبYawning is from Shaytan
التثاؤب من الشيطانSo my advice to you, O questioner, is to sleep early so that you take a large, good share of sleep and wake up active and well. I also advise you that when you rise from sleep, you do what Allah has prescribed by saying:
There is no god but Allah alone, having no partner. His is the dominion, and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent. Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power and no strength except by Allah. Praise be to Allah who gave me life after He had killed me, and to Him is the resurrection
