Continuation of the explanation of the verse: ((Except that you fear them...))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then he said:
except when taking precaution against them in prudence إلا أن تتقوا منهم تقاة
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
And the "except" here is undoubtedly a particle of exception, but is this exception connected or disconnected? The correct view is that it is disconnected, indeed it must be so, because in the case of fear, we do not take them as allies, but we agree with them in appearance and differ with them in reality. Also, look at
except when taking إلا أن تتقوا
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
So be aware, this is not permissible except in the case of fear for one's life, due to the weakness of the Muslims and the strength of the disbelievers. Second: it is obligatory that this alliance be with the tongue only, in appearance, whereas in reality, it is obligatory for us to harbor enmity and hatred toward them and not to have any alliance with them. And his saying:
except when taking precaution against them in prudence إلا أن تتقوا منهم تقاة
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]

The Shaykh : And the shift, as we have mentioned before, has benefits. Who can mention them?
The student: The general benefit and the specific benefit.

The Shaykh : The general benefit is alertness, alerting the one being addressed. That is, if the address remains on one consistent track, a person continues to proceed in it without being alert. But if it changes, he becomes alert. This alertness upon change exists in all movement, whether mental or physical. If you were walking and found a hole in the road, you would become alert, or if you found a rise in the road, a step, you would become alert, would you not? So it is with speech; if you were on one consistent track and you were a speaker, your sermon would bring on sleep, but if the sermon contained commands, prohibitions, questions, presentations, and warnings, that would serve as an alert, alerting the one being addressed. Likewise, in the Qur'an, Allah the Exalted sometimes moves from one context to a new context for the sake of alertness. As for the second benefit, it is restricted according to the decision.
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
(28) Let not believers take disbelievers as allies rather than believers. And whoever [of you] does that has nothing with Allah, except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the [final] destination. (29) Say, "Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or reveal it, Allah knows it. And He knows that which is in the heavens and that which is on the earth. And Allah is over all things competent. (30) The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His] servants."
[Ali 'Imran 3:28-30]
