The benefits of the verse: ((The believers shall not take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers...))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of this verse, first: the prohibition of taking disbelievers as allies, based on His saying:
Let not believers take disbelievers as allies rather than believers
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
. Among its benefits: that the implication of true faith is that a person should take disbelievers as enemies, based on His saying:
Let not believers
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
. He attached this ruling to the believers, which is evidence that the implication of their faith is that they should not take them as allies, but rather take them as enemies, because these disbelievers are the partisans of Satan and his allies. And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze.
[Fatir 35:6]
. Among its benefits: that taking disbelievers as allies is contrary either to faith in its essence or to the perfection of faith, meaning it contradicts the essence of faith or the perfection of faith. Why? Because when a ruling is attached to a description, it follows that description in strength and weakness. So as faith becomes perfect, enmity becomes perfect and alliance ceases. And when alliance exists, faith is weak, and when faith is weak, alliance also exists. Among the benefits of this noble verse: an indication that it is obligatory for the believer to take allies from among the believers, based on His saying here:
rather than believers من دون المؤمنين
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
. This is undoubtedly the implication of faith. Allah, the Exalted, said:
The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong
[At-Tawbah 9:71]
. So it is obligatory for the believer to take allies from among the believers. Among the benefits of this noble verse: that taking disbelievers as allies is among the major sins. The indication is that Allah disavows them, and attaching the disavowal to a ruling indicates that it is among the major sins. The plural of major sin is "major sins," and the best definition given for it is: that upon which a specific punishment is established. This is because prohibitions are of two types: either they are prohibited or mentioned with the word of prohibition, but there is no specific punishment for the doer, in which case they are among the minor sins; or a specific punishment is established for doing them, in which case they are among the major sins. But just as minor sins differ until some approach major sins, so major sins differ. Cutting off the tie of kinship between an uncle and his nephew is not like undutifulness to parents, even though both are among the major sins. The important point is that major sins differ, and so do minor sins. Among the benefits of this noble verse: that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is the wali (close friend) of the believers. How? Because the one who takes disbelievers as allies and leaves the believers, Allah disavows him, because he is of no concern to the believers, so Allah is of no concern to him. There is a witness to this in the Qur'an, such as His saying, the Exalted:
Your ally is none but Allah and [therefore] His Messenger and those who have believed
[Al-Ma'idah 5:55]
, and such as His saying:
And Allah is the ally of the believers.
[Ali 'Imran 3:68]
, and such as His saying:
Allah is the ally of those who believe
[Al-Baqarah 2:257]
. There are many verses in this meaning that Allah is the wali of the believers, so He supports those who support Him and those He supports, and He opposes those who oppose Him. It is authentic in the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in what he narrates from his Lord, that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:
I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine
Sahih al-Bukhari 6502
. Among the benefits of this noble verse: the ease of Islam and its simplicity, where the burden has been lifted from the community, by what He permitted of taking the pious as allies in case of necessity to them, based on His saying:
except when taking precaution against them in prudence
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
. Among the benefits of the verse: that it is not permissible to make concessions to the enemies of Allah or to show satisfaction with what they are upon, based on His saying:
except when taking precaution against them in prudence
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
. It is known that taking the pious as allies is not permissible except in case of necessity, and even then, a person intends with it what? That it is a protection from what he fears from them, not satisfaction with what they did or tranquility with it. Among the benefits of this noble verse: that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in His perfect mercy and its comprehensiveness, and His love for repentance, in the context of warning, mentions from the verses or from the words, strong and powerful words, based on His saying:
And Allah warns you of Himself
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
. Because the context is one that requires severity in that, for it is among the greatest things that the believers take disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. For this reason, He said:
And Allah warns you of Himself
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
. Among the benefits of this noble verse: the use of "nafs" (self) for "dhat" (essence), because the intended meaning is his self, i.e., his essence
Allah warns you of Himself
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
, i.e., his essence. The expression with "nafs" is more appropriate than the expression with "dhat," even though the expression with "dhat" is the famous one among scholars. But the expression of "dhat" for "nafs" is not from the eloquent Arabic language, as Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said, but rather it is taken from a customary usage. Its origin is that "dhat" is used as an attribute, and it is said: "dhat jamaal" (essence of beauty), "dhat din" (essence of religion), "dhat mal" (essence of wealth), and the like. So they express "dhat" for the entity characterized by its attributes, then they solidified it from the attribution and expressed the word "dhat" without attribution. This is the origin of the use of the word "dhat," otherwise it is not pure Arabic. Among the benefits of this noble verse: the obligation to refer things to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, based on His saying:
and to Allah is the [final] destination.
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
. Among its benefits also: the repetition of warning, and that if the context requires it, its repetition is among the highest types of eloquence. Because His saying:
And Allah warns you of Himself
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
is a warning, and
and to Allah is the [final] destination.
[Ali 'Imran 3:28]
is also a warning, for it is a threat and warning for whoever contradicts what Allah warned against.
