I want to fast the fast of the Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him). Is there any harm if my fast falls on a Friday, because I want to decrease or increase from that?

The questioner : The questioner says: I want to fast the fast of the Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him). Is there any harm if my fast falls on a Friday, because I want to decrease or increase from that?

The Shaykh : Yes, there is nothing wrong with it. If a person fasts one day and leaves one day, and his fast happens to fall on a Friday, there is no harm. The prohibition of fasting on a Friday is only when one intends to single out Friday specifically. However, if it happens that Friday is the day he fasts while he is fasting one day and leaving one day, or if Friday happens to be the Day of 'Arafah, or if Friday happens to be the Day of Ashura, there is no harm in fasting it alone. This is because the prohibition of fasting on a Friday is only regarding singling it out and giving it special status. For this reason, it came in the authentic hadith:
Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: Do not single out the night (preceding) Friday among the nights for prayer and do not single out Friday among days for fasting but only when anyone among you is accustomed to fast (on dates) which coincide with this day (Friday). لا تخصوا يوم الجمعة بصيام ولا ليلتها بقيام
