Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nisa 4:14]. Among the benefits of this noble verse is the classification of the one who goes against [the truth] into a sinner and one who transgresses the limits of Allah. Here, sin is the commission of what is forbidden, and transgressing the limits is leaving off what is obligatory or exaggerating in it. Among its benefits is that disobeying the Messenger of Allah is like disobeying Allah, because He coupled it with the disobedience of Allah using a letter that necessitates equivalence. Among its benefits is that whoever combines two things: sin and transgressing the limits, he will enter the Fire. But is it an eternal entry or a temporary entry? It is said: according to the sin. Because Allah mentioned in the verse before it that whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will enter the Gardens, and here He said: whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger will enter the Fire. It is said: the one whose obedience predominates, his owner will enter Paradise without entering the Fire, and the one whose sin predominates, it is predominant that what is in it of obedience, he will enter the Fire... And the one who combines obedience and sin? This one enters the Fire and Paradise, because the cause of entering Paradise and the Fire is found in him, so he is given the ruling . And on this basis, the sinner who sins absolutely and the one who transgresses the limits absolutely, this one enters the Fire and does not enter Paradise. And the one who combines sin and obedience, if obedience predominates, he does not enter the Fire, and if sin predominates, he enters the Fire according to his sin and comes out of it. Among its benefits is the establishment of eternal abode in the Fire, due to His saying: . And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, mentioned that the abode in the Fire is eternal in three verses of the Qur'an: in Surat al-Nisa, in Surat al-Ahzab, and in Surat al-Jinn. So in Surat al-Nisa, Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nisa 4:168-169], and in Surat al-Ahzab, Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said: [Al-Ahzab 33:64-65], and in Surat al-Jinn He said: [Al-Jinn 72:23]. And if Allah the Exalted mentioned eternity in three verses, then any statement that contradicts that is invalid, because the necessity of abode is the necessity of the place. If one says this person is eternal in the Fire forever, it necessitates that the place in which he is eternal is eternal, otherwise there is no meaning to eternity. So the statement of some scholars that they are eternal in it as long as it remains is an invalid statement with no basis from the... Because Allah explicitly stated eternity, the eternity of the abode, and the eternity of the abode in the place necessitates the eternity of the place, otherwise there would be no benefit. Among its benefits is that those in the Fire—may Allah protect us from it—are punished with a humiliating punishment, meaning one containing humiliation; they are not honored. If someone were to say: How do you reconcile this verse with His saying, the Exalted: [Ad-Dukhan 44:48-49]? The answer is from one of two aspects: either it is by way of mockery of him, or it is to mention his state in this world, meaning you are the noble and honored one in this world, so that his regret increases, and that he was noble and honored in this world and now is lowly and humiliated. And both matters—may Allah protect us from it—occur for this one to whom the address is directed. Scalding water is poured over his head, and then it is said: [Ad-Dukhan 44:49]. There is no doubt that he will see that it is said to him by way of mockery, and then he will also remember his state in this world, and that he was noble and honored in this world and now has reached this degree of humiliation.
