Then Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nur 24:44] meaning He brings each of them in place of the other. The turning is a sign for those with insight into the power of Allah the Exalted. He said: [An-Nur 24:44] The turning means changing a thing from one state to another. Yes, and is this turning intended to be the physical turning that the author indicated, meaning He brings this in place of this and this in place of this, or is it intended to be more comprehensive, encompassing both the physical and the conceptual? The answer is yes, it is intended to be more general than physical turning. Physical turning is when Allah turns the earth from being light and day into night, then into day, and so on. And conceptual turning is what happens in these days of events and changes, honor and victory, humiliation and abandonment. Yes, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Imran:140] So the correct understanding of the turning here is that it is not specific to physical turning, which is making night in place of day and day in place of night, but it is more general than that, encompassing both the physical and the conceptual. Also included in the turning is the turning of the seasons, where night and day occur at one time in winter and at another time in summer. All of this is part of the turning. It is important that you know that this turning is general in all changes that occur in night and day, whether in physical matters or conceptual matters. And this is the aspect of the lesson. The aspect of the lesson is that in that turning is indeed a lesson for those with insight. The one with insight, the one with vision, the one with insights. The intended meaning of "insight" is not the sight of the eye, but every one who has insight knows what is in the turning of night and day of the power of Allah Mighty and Majestic. [Al-Qasas:71] If all of creation gathered together to make the sun come out in the middle of the night, for example, could they do it or not? They could not. And if they all gathered together to make night come in the middle of the day, they would have no way to do so. And if Allah the Exalted had made the time always night or always day, all of creation would not be able to change this state. Therefore, Allah has made clear His favor upon His servants and from His mercy: [Ghafir:61] Likewise, what happens in night and day of events and fluctuations of affairs, this also contains a lesson. You find, for example, this king for this man has complete and full sovereignty and abundant blessings, then that sovereignty turns into humiliation and captivity. And you find these people in honor and victory and establishment, then the matter is reversed. All of this is what the rational person, the one with insight, uses as evidence for what Allah the Exalted has of nature in turning affairs and wisdom in managing them.
Now, His saying:[Ali 'Imran 3:13] If you do not take a lesson from that... know that you are not among those with insight. If you do not take a lesson from that and you do not find in yourself a movement for this turning and this change, know that you are not among those with insight. Because the speech of Allah Glorified and Exalted is precise and does not change, and He has informed that in that turning is what? A lesson for those with insight. So if there is no lesson for you in that, know that you are not among those with insight. Therefore, you must treat yourself until you reflect on what is in this turning of lessons and take heed by it. Do not think that this is just a word that was uttered [Ali 'Imran 3:13] and that is it. The one with insight knows what Allah the Exalted has in that of power and wisdom, but you must take heed. So if you do not take heed, then you are not among those with insight.
Allah alternates the night and the day
