The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon the noblest of the prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
As for what follows: Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim* "If it was for the sake of designating the specific location, and this is the apparent view, then the prohibition is against designating that location because it is the site of their festival. This is why, when it was free of that, slaughter was permitted there, while the intention of designating it remained. Thus, it is known that the danger lies in designating the site of their festival. If designating the site of their festival is dangerous, how much more so is their festival itself? This is just as, when it was disliked because it was the site of their shirk (associating partners with Allah) through the worship of idols, that was even stronger proof of the prohibition of shirk and the worship of idols. And if the prohibition is because slaughtering there entails agreeing with them in the practice of their festival, then it is exactly our case; for, on this assumption, mere slaughter there was not disliked except for agreeing with them in the festival, as there is no other danger in it. The first possibility was more apparent because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not ask him except about it being the place of their festival, and did not ask him: 'Do you slaughter at the time of their festival?' And because he said: 'Was there a festival of their festivals there?' Thus, it is known that it was at the time"
